CBI probe into UP Waqf Boards

New Delhi, June 17 ( The News )

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ordered an enquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the alleged irregularities in the Shia and Sunni waqf boards on June 15. Both the boards were dissolved in the wake of corruption charges against them, Minister of State for Waqf Mohsin Raza said.

Chairman of the Shia Waqf Board, Wasim Rizvi, and waqf minister in th previous Samajwadi Party government, Azam Khan, came under scanner after Waqf Council of India probed earlier.

The Central Waqf Council (CWC) indicted Azam Khan of corruption, mismanagement and misuse of office. It elaborated how Azam Khan allegedly misused his position to grab properties under the said boards.

Khan diverted funds from waqf properties to Maulana Johar Ali Education Trust which was set up by him. He has, however, asserted that he was absolutely clean and the allegations against him were baseless.
