30 kw solar plant set up

The Minister of Railways Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu along with Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha commissioned 30 kw Solar power plant at Rail Bhawan in New Delhi.

The plant is capable of sourcing power to about 800 light fittings. It would generate about 45,000 kw per annum besides saving about Rs 4 lakh in electricity bills annually. The minister stressed the need to establish solar plants at all Railway buildings

n public- private partnership.
Indian Railways had been harnessing solar energy of 10 mw capacity at 500 Railway stations, 4000 level-crossing gates, on roof-tops of office buildings, hospitals, workshops. Besides, solar water heating applications were set up at training institutes, retiring rooms and running rooms.

Railways also planned to provide solar plants of 10 mw capacity at 200 Railway stations, 26 office buildings and at 2000 level crossing gates.
