64046 km PR roads in 5 years: KTR

The Telangana Panchayati Raj Minister K Tharakarama Rao announced on December 11, at Secretariat that under express orders of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao the government would provide the best PR road network in the country within five years which would also result in good road connection to every village. 

The 64046 km road network would be built in stages using the latest engineering technology to last longer.

nbsp;Detailing further he said that 18564 km BT road, 14148 km metal road and 2617 rough road would be constructed in next five years. Work would begin for converting 4160 metal road into BT road at a cost of Rs 2038 crore.

In the 2014-15 financial year 120006 km BT road renewals would be taken up at cost of over Rs 1767 crore. The PR department would be strengthened to undertake this massive project, KTR said and added that no government in the past had taken up PR road expansion on such a massive scale.

Data Base

Besides, bridges at a cost of Rs 250 cr would also be built. A data base would be evolved for said network. The data base details shall be available on the website. Vigilance wing will be strengthened to take action against the erring contractors.

KTR pointed out that PR road network is vital to develop the villages on par with the urban areas and they decided to BT roads renewals, upgradation of roads and laying of new roads

to increase connectivity to the villages.

The minister also pointed out that the earlier congress government neglected the renewal of BT roads five years back. “ We are now taking it up,” said the minister. Rs 1767 crore will be spent for 12006 BT roads renewals and repairs and Rs 600 crore for repairs to 20000 km rough roads.
