Bharat Ratna for Atal, Malaviya

The country’s highest award Bharat Ratna has been conferred on former prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and noted academician Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya by the central government.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier recommended the two names to President Pranab Mukherjee.  Vajpayee was prime mimister of India heading the NDA alliance government. He was known for his statesmanship.

to be the birthday of both the veteran leaders Vajpayee and Malaviya. Malaviya was a freedom fighter and one time president of the Congress party. Malaviya belonged to Uttar Pradesh.

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed delight at the Bharat Ratna being conferred on Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya and former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Bharat Ratna, the country's highest civilian award was instituted in 1954. It is given in recognition of exceptional service, performance of the highest order in any field of human endeavour.
