Cold storage for fruits

Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh called upon the horticulture farmers to use modern techniques to produce better products. The government is promoting a chain of cold storage plants as to avoid wastage of horticulture products.

Addressing horticulture sangam, organised by National Horticulture Board and Horticulture Department of Karnataka at Lalbagh, Bengaluru, he said such events inspire farmer

to facilitate the availability of horticulture products of various states at single place. Farmers could directly sell their products to Mother Dairy, Reliance, Walmart, Big Bazaar, Spencer, who participate in the sangham, he said.

Attributing horticultural production of 275 million tonnes during 2014-15 to the farmers’ efforts Singh said that government has intergrated all horticulture programmes into Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture so that farmers and entrepreneurs are benefitted.

Mango, lichi, grapes, saffron, have a distinct identity in the global market. Exports have contributed to increase the foreign exchange, he said. Government had been facilitating use of advanced techniques so that farmers could achieve high productivity with quality and efficiency in cultivation.
