IELP fellowship Telangana government refuses assistance to teacher

The News Bureau

It appears the Telangana government has utterly undermined the need to recognize the achievement of a government schoolteacher from Warangal district and provide the required assistance to her.

It may be recalled Niharika Thoutam, mathematics teacher from Zilla Parishad High School in Gorrekunta village of Warangal rural district has been selected for the International Leaders in Educati

n Fellowship (IELP) by USA.

Even as the IELP fellowship for 2018-19 is set to commence from January 2, 2018, Telangana government refused to accord her ‘on duty’ permission to attend the fellowship, which she got with hard work and dedicated services to her students.

The only other three participants from India representing Kerala, Nagaland and New Delhi have been accorded permission to go for the fellowship ‘on duty’, but the Telangana government has refused the same on the ground that every teacher will opt for the same if she was given permission. It is time the Telangana government rethink its stand and do the needful in the matter.
